Volkswagen Problems
High Mileage Automatic Transmissions May Have Shifting Problems
Shifting issues due to internal problems in high mileage automatic transmissions can be difficult to resolve without transmission replacement.
Power Window May Fail Due to Window Regulator
One or more power windows may fail. Our technicians tell us this is commonly due to a failed window regulator which will require replacement.
Engine Oil Leaks
Engine oil leaks are common from the valve cover gaskets and camshaft chain tensioner gasket.
Reverse Gear Failures and/or Noise From Manual Transmission
Reverse gear failures and noise in the manual transmission models are common.
ABS Light Due to Control Module Failure
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) control module may fail causing the ABS light to illuminate. Failed modules should be replaced to restore ABS operation.
Volkswagen Recalls (Recent)
The Engine, Lights, and Wipers May Shut Down
The "converter" box is protected by the same fuse as the horn and anti-theft system alarm. If this fuse were to blow, power would be lost to the "converter" box. As a result, the engine management computer, lights, and wipers would all stop functioning. What all this means is the engine could stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will separate the wiring for the horn and anti-theft system from the power supply to the "converter" box and route the wires to separate fuses. Due to an insufficient quantity of repair kits, this recall is not expected to begin until May, 2011.
Volkswagen JettaPotential Diesel Fuel Leak
On the 2.0L TDI common rail Diesel engine/clean Diesel engine, fuel injection pulses could coincide with the natural frequency of injector line #2. This resonance creates additional stress on the fuel line. Small cracks could develop in the #2 injector line, resulting in a Diesel fuel leak. A fuel leak always increases the risk of a fire. Dealers will install an improved #2 fuel injector line and install vibration dampers on all of the injector lines to correct this concern. The Volkswagen/Audi recall number is 23J9/V5.
Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Jetta
Exhaust Tail Pipe May Be Too Long
A stainless steel exhaust tip installed after production may extend beyond the original length of the factory-installed exhaust pipe. It's possible for inadvertent contact to occur, which could cause a burn. Dealers will replace the stainless steel exhaust tip as necessary to correct this concern. The Volkswagen recall number is 26G8/U3.
Volkswagen Jetta
Right Rear Hub Assembly May Fail Prematurely
15 vehicles may have been assembled with a right rear hub and bearing assembly that was not fully machined. This could result in decreased durability and premature failure. Failure could result in wheel separation from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the right rear hub and bearing assembly to correct this concern. The Volkswagen recall number is 42G3/W2.
Volkswagen RoutanTire Pressure Monitor System May Not Function as Designed
Four vehicles were equipped with accessory wheels that do not have the proper tire pressure sensors. Drivers will not receive a warning when one or more tires are under inflated, increasing the risk of tire failure. Dealers will replace the affected tire pressure sensors. As of June 1, 2011, all owners of affected vehicles have been notified. The Volkswagen recall number is 44J4/X0.

Volkswagen Owners' Stories
I have a 6 cylinder wagon with sport suspension/package. At 80K it started making a noise at idle, like a chka-chka-chka-chka fast, not real loud. I mentioned it before an oil change today and the mechanic heard it as well. Said it's the upper chain drive that is slipping and can cause serious engine damage if not fixed. To get to it requires removing the transmission so while they're in there may as replace the clutch, and check the cooling system. Now it's at 90K miles and I feel like I'm driving a ticking time bomb, it's over 2 grand to repair, but I will do it because I'm not up for buying someone else's problem when I've maintained it for ten years.
love the car one glitch with the radio but other wise it is great
MY STORY ABOUT A 1999 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT I WILL SAY THIS IS THE BEST CAR I EVER HAD....DON'T SPEND MUCH MONEY ON ANYTHING SINCE I HAD THIS CAR...MEANING MAJOR.....I'M HAVING PROBLEM ON THE WINDOWS AND SUNROOF...NEITHER WILL GO DOWN OR OPEN.....THE WINDOWS PERIOD WILL NOT GO DOWN....WHAT'S UP WITH THAT......OTHER THAN THAT GREAT CAR///I WILL SAY///
Person with signal light problem. With allot of cars if the bulb(s) are not working the flasher wil click once and then stay on, by the sounds of it, you have a bulb problem, or corrsion on wires. Take the bulbs out make sure there is no corrosion in the sockets, when replacing them put a little grease on the contacts
Ughhh, where do I begin.. So I bought my used 2002 VW jetta from the Hawthorne dealership for $5000 cash, they told me it ran perfect, nothing was wrong with it, I loved it when I bought it...So that was a month ago, I had my fiance change the oil, and when he looked under the car everything was totally rusted, and there was chunky oil and fluid all dried up all over under the car.. It is an automatic, and all of a sudden when i try to leave to go anywhere, my car wont shift, it stays in first and will not go into second and just rev's the RPM so high, so I have to pull over and let my car warm up for about 10 more minutes, very embarressing, and now they say there is nothing they can do about it, im a single mom and this totally sucks, cause it is so exspensive...
